Wedding Buzz of the Week: 201002 - "Look, cheap...is it worth the money?" - 1.11.10

< Back

"Wedding Buzz of the Week" is a free weekly Wedding article from expert Brian Kelm, designed to educate, get your creative juices flowing, and inspire you to a picture-perfect Wedding full of success and life-long memories!

Every Monday in 2010, I will provide you with a different lesson covering an area of your Wedding that you may have never known or thought about before.

For the week of January 11th, I am going to rant about a mental decision that is made for everything someone may purchase no matter the cost and the disconnect that is made within each decision.

Yes, the economy is recovering & money doesn't go as far as it once did...blah blah blah.  However, making your purchases worthwhile, valuable, and last longer has not changed or been at a higher level than over the past 10-20 years.  Commodity goods aside, you want your money to go farther and whatever you buy to last longer.  Somewhere in that internal conversation about whether to buy or not you as yourself, "Is it worth the money?" & then respond accordingly.

It blows me away when people fall for out-of-this world deals & discounts then are disappointed when there is a problem or defect at the reduced cost.

HERE'S THE POT OF GOLD: Just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's worth the money - IN VALUE, TIME OR MATERIALS.

The problem with this situation is that human beings always fall for gimmicks or "just to get by" types of purchases instead of investing in a product or service that IS worth the money with recognizable value - peace of mind, trust, better quality, long-lasting, better craftsmanship, etc.

Products & services that rarely go on sale are those that lead the way (Apple & Toyota) come to mind in what they represent, stand for, and how they run their businesses.

I wonder if there is a correlation between better engineering, quality materials, precision machining processes & how long the vehicle will last, repairs & sense of value?  I THINK SO!

Caveat Emptor = buyer beware.  Every business has their own philosophy, methods & ways to do what they do.  The best companies have a way of presenting what they do in a way that is emotional, filled with value & the time/efforts they put into their work is spoken for by previous clients/customers...no denying their capabilities & successes.

Before you make your next Wedding reservation/purchase...ask yourself, "Is it worth the money?" if you quickly don't say 'YES' and your gut is telling you 'NO', walk away and reevaluate your decision.
