Wedding Buzz of the Week: 201001 - "It's about that time...Bridal Shows '10!" - 1.4.10

< Back

"Wedding Buzz of the Week" is a free weekly Wedding article from expert Brian Kelm, designed to educate, get your creative juices flowing, and inspire you to a picture-perfect Wedding full of success and life-long memories!

Every Monday in 2010, I will provide you with a different lesson covering an area of your Wedding that you may have never known or thought about before.

For the first article of the New Year & decade, I want to share some tips to think about and use as you set out to browse, spend your time & attend a bridal show.

From well over 10 years of trade show experience, I can tell you that bridal shows can either help you or hurt you depending on what you put in getting ready for them.

Don't waste your time by going blind to an event of this magnitude.  Go prepared and ready to seek out what you are there for.  If you play your cards right, this can be one of the most rewarding experiences of your planning process, the decision and choice of how your experience will turn out is still up to you.

For a wonderful time that is seamless, fun, and productive, implement these suggestions:

1. Know why you are attending.
    - Is it to browse, reserve or just seek out ideas.  Ask yourself, "What you are looking to accomplish?" before the show and act on it with a list of things to do.

2. Limit the number of people who go with
    you.

- I know this is the biggest day of your life & a very exciting time, yet you don't want confusion amongst multiple opinions, not able to think clear or have time wasted on things you already have complete or are not needed.

3. Don't reserve anybody at the show.

- This can be a major letdown especially if you know nothing about them and vice versa, have no connection or like each other.  If you establish a rapport with someone, write down their contact information & meet up with them within a week or two after the show.

4. Have a game plan.

   - Who you need to speak with, seek out, and do at the show.  The better you know this and the more time you spend on being specific - the quicker it will go and more smooth it will appear.

5. Act on your intentions.

   - Going, talking & then sitting back and waiting for things to fall into place doesn't work and is a waste of time.  Use the show as motivation for your road map in what needs to be done.  Just remember, action is the ONLY thing that gives you results = Perfect Wedding Day!

Happy 2010!  All my best with your planning process & bridal show experience(s)!
